Testimonials & Reviews

JUDY! | Arts Theatre

"West End style is provided by Jack Weir's smart and very impressive lighting design. Nostalgia is embraced by moody lighting states which evoke the possibility of youth, the lustful pleasures of performance (on and off stage) and the twilight stages of a powerhouse career. Most impressive are Weir's evocations of Palace Judy is performance, where the lighting truly takes you to another place, another theatre..."

The Plague | Arcola Theatre

Jack Weir's lighting manages a peripheral dimension partly off red and green lights menace, and lights tables in a ghostly gleam.

Theatre Full Stop
The Plague | Arcola Theatre

lighting (design by Jack Weir) brings forth the power and poetry of the original novel which is still so relevant today.

Bad Girls| Union Theatre

"Jack Weir's lighting is outstanding. In the absence of physical scenic changes it is down to the lighting plots to suggest time and place and it is rare that an off West End show is found to offer such distinctive clarity.. Jack Weir’s inspired lighting design introduces us to each of the women, shining a spotlight on them as they each tell a sorry tale of how they ended up banged up."

No Villain | Trafalgar Studios

"Jack Weir's lighting is exceptional too: moody, insistent and faintly dream-like, the way he uses light to shape scenes is exemplary. The top of the play is bright but listless, the energy of the light strangely unsure while the family waits in the heat for Arny's return. The work environment is perfectly evoked, with shadows of substance reflecting cross-beams or roof supports which mark out the area as one of work, not home life. The light is denser, somehow, in the factory, reflecting the thick, uncompromising difficulty that Abe is experiencing there, and, somehow, it all looks like you are watching an old movie - the light is grainy and sinister. The final scene, funereal and climactic, is intense, naked candlelight adding to the texture of the ambient hues."

The Spitfire Grill | Union Theatre

Jack Weir’s expert use of lighting ensures that the story remains easy to follow and utterly beautiful to watch, effortlessly transporting audience members from a jail to a bus stop to a morning sunrise.

Four Play | Theatre503

Weir’s lighting design is absolutely stunning. Hundreds of colour LEDs which light, flash, and change hue to create warmth, cold, and some exciting scene changes. Weir adds subtle but luscious topical blushes on top of playing with the light boards behind the plywood. Four Play is possibly Theatre503’s most impressive stage and lighting design for a show yet."

Title of Show | Above The Stag

"Some of the best lighting I’ve seen in a small theatre for a long time from lighting designer Jack Weir. "
